Positive: The design and layout were nice. Beds and beach furniture were comfortable. Overall property design was attractive. We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. We had a good experience with the personnel before and during our stay. The food was good, not great. Al Pastor chicken burrito and pork belly tostones were favorites. Generally lukewarm, not hot was our experience. Breakfast buffet was ok. Fruit and savory items were good. Other common breakfast items were good- scrambled eggs were mid. At every meal they ask for food allergies, which is nice. Beach was nice to sit at but a bit rocky getting in and out of the water.

Negative: Significant deferred maintenance work necessary. Stucco was falling off the exterior in places. Ceiling in our WC was cut open and not repaired properly. Door latch to our room was loose and malfunctioning. Shoddy past repair work evident. Communication around transfer process and coordination could have been better. Our inbound flight was delayed. We needed to change in our transfer and ferry timing. I emailed the hotel and transfer company both repeatedly without reply. Finally I called the resort and a very nice person assured us that the changes would be handled, which they were. The day before checkout I stopped at the front desk to confirm outbound ferry times. I was told the first ferry was at 9am, which would not allow enough time for travel from the resort to the airport, then to clear security, etc. Reception was helpful and got a ferry to run at 8am. Our flight information was provided to both Maritur and Almare well in advance of our arrival- at their request. Our expectation was that they would have the necessary arrangements in place to accommodate our travel. Maritur had our pickup at the ferry scheduled appropriately for 8:30am. It would have been a better experience to have our travel clearly settled and communicated in advance. We could have easily missed our outbound flight. We were under the impression that the vehicle transfer company (Maritur), the ferry transfer, and Almare would be better coordinated. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that the kitchen receives or pays attention to allergen messages. Twice, after being very clear with the host and the server, I received meals containing excluded allergens. A manager checked on me after the fact, which was appreciated, but it doesn't change the fact that I was exposed and couldn't eat my meal. My experience with the "prime" ala carte beef offering was poor.

Summary: Aside from a few shortcomings we did really enjoy our stay. More attention to detail!
